MAINE COMMUNITY ACTION ASSOCIATION
The Council on Poverty and Economic Security

The Council on Poverty and Economic Security

The Maine Community Action Association, in conjunction with the national organization, the Community Action Partnership and many other groups, has been engaged in a discussion to reduce and eliminate the poverty that limits the future for more than one in ten Americans.

Community Actions have been the nation’s laboratory for developing and refining many innovative poverty reduction initiatives. In the process, Community Action agencies have learned that reducing poverty is a complex endeavor and that eliminating poverty is an even more daunting task. We believe, especially here in Maine, that it can be done, and we need to build the political will to make it happen.

The Governor’s Council on Poverty and Economic Security, a result of the 2007 Poverty Symposium, is a significant first step.
